A Dawn Ranch Wedding: Claire & Monica's Celebration Under the Redwoods

Claire and Monica had their wedding at Dawn Ranch in Guerneville, a quiet, river-side corner of Wine Country where the redwoods seem to stand guard over every celebration. Their day began slowly, with the soft kind of light that filters through tall trees and makes everything feel unhurried.

Their ceremony took place in a clearing surrounded by redwoods—an almost cathedral-like space Dawn Ranch is known for. One bride wore a classic white gown with a sweetheart neckline; the other chose a crisp button-down and beautifully tailored gray trousers. Their flowers—bright orange ranunculus and deep pink peonies—felt like a small conversation between the two of them: different in tone, completely aligned in spirit.

As their Sonoma wedding photographer, I was drawn to the quiet in-between moments. A deep breath before walking into the garden. A laugh caught off to the side of the aisle. A tiny guest in a yellow dress who made everyone around her smile. Dawn Ranch is full of little corners where the light pools in interesting ways, which gave us some of my favorite portraits of the day.

Guests moved easily between the gardens and the long dinner tables set beneath fruit trees. As the evening shifted into gold, candles flickered along the tabletops and music floated under the open Sonoma sky. It felt intimate without being small—grand in setting and heartfelt in tone.

I photograph many LGBTQ+ weddings across Northern California, and documenting this celebration at Dawn Ranch was a reminder of why I treasure this work. Two women surrounded by people who adore them, beginning a new chapter under trees that have seen centuries of stories. A beautiful day in every way.
