A Japanese Garden Engagement Session Near San Jose
Angela and Toshi met in a slightly unusual way: he was her physical therapist.
By the time we met for their engagement session, the wedding was planned and they wanted photographs that captured this particular moment in their lives before the wedding arrived.
We chose a Japanese garden near San Jose, where we could wander a little and find quiet places for them to sit together. Angela and Toshi actually wanted some posed photographs, and sitting was more comfortable for her, so we worked with both.

Angela and Toshi wanted some posed photographs, and sitting was more comfortable for her, so we worked around that. But as we wandered through the gardens, there were plenty of laughs and sweet moments that happened on their own (those are my favorites). There was plenty of laughter, a little showing off of the ring, and some wonderfully affectionate moments when they seemed to forget about the camera altogether.
One of their engagement photographs eventually became the welcome photograph at their wedding, where their guests could sign it, which was a lovely way for photographs from one part of their story to become part of the next.
Engagement photography that feels like you
Engagement sessions do not have to be elaborate or highly styled. Sometimes they are simply an opportunity to spend an hour together somewhere beautiful and have photographs of this short stretch of time between deciding to get married and actually doing it.
I photograph engagements throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Francisco, the Peninsula, South Bay and Wine Country.
